General Information

SPEED LIMIT 5 KNOTS IN THE CANAL.

Depth in the Canal
The hydrographic information is based on sparse 
soundings by handlead from the years of 1816 and 
1817. In shallow waters aerial photographs have 
been used to improve depth information. All navigation 
outside the recommended tracks must be carried out with 
caution. Soundings and heights in metres reduced to Mean 
Sea Level. The Canal is regularly dredged and controlled. 
The least depth is 2.97 m.

Traffic signals for bridges across Gota canal
From bridges the following signals are shown:
Iso R 4s		Bridge closed.
Iso R 4s + Iso W 4s	The ship is observed.
Iso R 4s + F W		Bridge is beeing opened or closed.
Iso G 4s		Bridge is open. Proceed.

Some of the bridges across Gota canal are remote controlled 
from an other location. The remote controlled bridges are TV-monitored. 
The bridge-master can be contacted by telecommunication installed at the bridges.

Sound signals for Gota canal
The following sound signals with the signal horn are required to 
be made as well as the signals of the international regulations 
for preventing collisions at sea.

1 long blast			Hail or reply to be made by E-bound vessels.
2 long blasts			Hail or reply to be made by W-bound vessels.
1 short and 1 long blast	I am proceeding.
1 long and 1 short blast	I am stopping (stopped).
